Square-tailed Black bulbul (Hypsipetes ganeesa humii)

Binomial: Hypsipetes ganeesa humii
Sinhala: කළු කොණ්ඩයා[Kalu kondaya]

Square-tailed Black bulbul is a resident breeding bird lives in forest patches of Sri Lanka. Common in wet zone. Most of the time it can be found in tree canopy with the loud unique call. Above photograph was taken at Sinharaja rain forest in February, 2015.

Yellow-browed Bulbul (Acritillas indica)


English : Yellow-browed Bulbul
Binomial Name : Acritillas indica / Iole indica  
Sinhala : බැමකහ ගුලුගුඩුවා / කහ කොණ්ඩයා [Bema kaha guluguduwa / Kaha kondaya]
Yellow-browed Bulbul lives in Sri Lanka and India. It can be found only in forests and deficult to find close to human habitats. In Sri Lanka there are two sub species. Among subspecis of this bird, I. indica indica lives in dry zone and hill country. I. indica guglielmi lives in wet zone and it is endemic to Sri Lanka.

White-browed Bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus)


English : White-browed Bulbul  
Binomial Name : Pycnonotus luteolus  
Sinhala : බැමසුදු කොණ්ඩයා [Bema sudu kondaya]
This bird can be seen in all zones of Sri Lanka. It is a noisy bird that lives in secoundary forests, scrubs, cultivations and home gardens. Apart form Sri Lanka it lives in India.

Yellow eared Bulbul (Pycnonotus penicillatus) is an endemic bird of Sri Lanka. Restricted to the highlands and can be seen commonly in Peak wilderness, Horton plains and Piduruthalagala nature reserve. It feeds on insects and fruits.
