Indian Cupid (Everes lacturnus)


English: Indian Cupid/Oriental Cupid
Binomial: Everes lacturnus

It is a widely distributed butterfly found in Sri Lanka and some other Asian countries. Colour pattern of the wings are similar to Chilades pandava. Host plants belong to fabaceae family. Above was photographed at Makandawa rain forest, Kithulgala.

Binomial Name: Caleta decidia

A butterfly mainly found in wet zone forests of Sri Lanka. Host plants belong to Rhamnaceae family. Its population has been distributed in many other Asian countries.

Pea blue is a butterfly belongs to Lycaenidae family and population of this butterfly has been distributed in many parts of the world including Sri Lanka. This photo was taken in Horton National Park close to Ulex europaeus shrubs which is one of this butterfly's host plants.

Indian Sunbeam (Curetis thetis)


English : Indian Sunbeam
Binomial Name : Curetis thetis
Indian Sunbeam is an uncommon butterfly of Sri Lanka and distributed across Indian sub continent. More common in dry zone compared to wet zone. It has been found in all over the island up to 900 meters above the sea level. Female of this butterfly is rare to find compared to male. Male can be identified easily by brightly colored upperside. Upperside of the female is dark brownish-black.
