Binomial Name : Halcyon smyrnensis
Sinhala : ළයසුදු මැදි-පිළිහුඩුවා [Laya sudu medi pilihuduwa]
Very common bird of Sri Lanka and can be seen in all environmental regions. Mostly live in areas near to water. Few sub species of this bird have been identified around the world and the one lives in Sri Lanka is H. s. fusca. They are predators and feed on frogs, crustaceans and insects, worms etc.
