Green Imperial Pigeon(Ducula aenea)


English : Green Imperial Pigeon
Binomial Name : Ducula aenea
Sinhala : නීල මහගොයා [Neela maha goya]
A bird distributed in tropical southern Asia from India east to Indonesia including Sri Lanka. Number of sub species exist and the one found in Sri Lanka is D. a. pusilla. This arboreal bird is named as a forest bird and can be seen in canopy layer of forests. They mainly feed on plant material of forest canopy.

  6. Today 8th August 2025, morning, around 7 am, in Makola road, one km from Kiribathgoda town, I saw a well grown pair on the jak tree and then landing on roof gutter to drink stagnant rain water. This is a highly residential area.

  7. I witnessed a full grown pair today morning in our home garden drinking stagnant rain water from the roof gutter. Though called a forest bird, our area is residential 1 km to Kiribathgoda city.
